Renewable energy development and finance business joins Sowery as a strategic partner, with the collaboration forming part of his forthcoming beyondZERO programme
British racing driver Toby Sowery has announced a new strategic partnership with Global NRG, an international renewable energy development and finance business working across the UK, US and international markets.
The partnership brings together Sowery’s international motorsport platform and growing commercial network with Global NRG’s expertise in renewable energy, infrastructure and project development, creating opportunities for collaboration across energy, transportation, logistics and other hard-to-decarbonise sectors.
It will also form part of beyondZERO, a new programme being developed around Sowery’s racing career with the ambition of using motorsport’s relationships, technology and commercial reach to create positive impact beyond the race track.
Global NRG develops, structures and finances infrastructure that transforms organic waste into low-carbon fuel, including anaerobic digestion and biomethane plants, renewable natural gas (RNG), Bio-LNG facilities and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.
Founded by Chris Negus and Andrew Rice, the company currently has more than £1.5 billion of active development across its portfolio. Recent work includes a $200 million RNG facility in Kentucky, a six-site biomethane and Bio-LNG platform in the UK, and SkyFuel Renewables, a US sustainable aviation fuel developer targeting first production before the end of the decade.
The technologies being developed by Global NRG are particularly relevant to industries where electrification alone cannot provide the complete solution, including heavy freight, shipping and aviation.
Through the strategic partnership, Sowery and Global NRG will explore opportunities to connect the company’s capabilities with businesses and industries across his wider international network, while identifying areas where motorsport can provide a platform for new relationships, projects and commercial opportunities.
The collaboration reflects the philosophy behind Sowery’s forthcoming beyondZERO programme.
Rather than viewing sustainability solely through reducing or offsetting the environmental footprint associated with racing, beyondZERO will look at how the platform surrounding motorsport can be used to create positive impact elsewhere.
By bringing together organisations across areas including energy, transportation, logistics and technology, the programme will seek to turn relationships created through motorsport into practical collaborations with relevance far beyond the race track.
