After an impressive return to the Indy NXT paddock, British racing driver Toby Sowery will join Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for an NTT INDYCAR SERIES test next month.
26-year-old Sowery will test for the acclaimed RLL team at Sebring International Raceway, Florida, on the 8th of June, 2023, four days after racing in the IndyNXT series for HMD Motorsports on the Streets of Detroit.
This will be Toby’s first taste of the INDYCAR machinery and forms part of a more comprehensive plan for the 2024 season.
Speaking just days after his stunning podium-finishing return to the IndyNXT series at Barber Motorsports Park, Sowery said:

After the frustrations of 2020 and 2021, I focussed on building a strong team and a more strategic approach to reaching the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. This test is a massive moment for my career, and I am more hungry than ever to deliver the results I know I am capable of and show what I can offer on the INDYCAR stage.
RLL is a race-winning team with great resources, and last season delivered the Rookie Driver of the Year honors. Bobby Rahal came to meet me in the UK earlier this year; his passion for the sport is infectious. I also visited the new facility before the start of the season and was hugely impressed by the dedication and commitment to reaching their ultimate goal. This drive to commit everything you can to be the very best and the genuine love of the sport is something I share with RLL, so there is a natural synergy between us.”
Sowery continued to show his class after a 617-day break from championship racing when he returned to INDYNXT with HMD Motorsports to replace incumbent Josh Pierson in a five-race program that includes Detroit and Laguna Seca. During his Indy Lights Rookie year in 2019 with BN Racing / HMD Motorsports, Sowery demonstrated his undoubted ability to win at Portland International Raceway and finish an outstanding 3rd overall in the Series.
Speaking about the upcoming test Bobby Rahal, team co-owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing with David Letterman and Mike Lanigan said:

Sowery will attend the Indy GP this Weekend with HMD Motorsports before rejoining the grid for the IndyNXT by Firestone Detroit Grand Prix on the 2nd – 4th of June.
