Toby Sowery Joins Algarve Pro For ALMS Debut

Toby Sowery will be joining Algarve Pro Racing alongside Freddie Tomlinson and Chris McMurry for the upcoming 2023-2024 Asian Le Mans Series.

Racing in the APR ORECA 07-Gibson LMP2, he will make his series debut at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia for the 4 Hours of Sepang on the 1st -2nd of December.

This year Toby had an impressive return to the IndyNXT championship on his first return to the series since 2021. He went on to complete an Indycar test for Rahal Letterman and Lanigan Racing with Bobby Rahal saying “Considering this was Toby’s first time in an Indycar, and at this track, he performed exceptionally well. To say we were impressed with him would be an understatement, Toby is clearly a very accomplished driver and I would personally like the opportunity to work with him again”

For the 2023 / 24 season Toby takes a leap into the Prototypes arena and is thrilled to do so with multiple title-winning team Algarve Pro Racing who have won championships across European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and the prestigious IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as well as 24 Hours of Le Mans class victories.

Of his debut in an Indycar Toby said:

“The Indycar test went extremely well. I felt instantly at one with the car and was confident pushing it to its limits. It was hard to gauge pace wise where we were overall, but relative to the other car on track we were consistently faster whilst putting a lot of laps down following our test/run plan. It was a pleasure to drive and I aim to make it not my only time driving an NTT Indycar!”

Looking to the 2023 and 2024 season he continued:

“I’m really excited to have this opportunity with Algarve Pro Racing and the new challenge of the Asian Le Mans Series, It’s a totally new experience for me, having had less than one day in the ORECA 07-Gibson LMP2, but I’m very confident in the support that APR will provide. I instantly felt comfortable with the team and, looking at its history, there isn’t a better place to start this journey.”

Algarve Pro Racing Team Principal, Stewart Cox, said:

“We’re expecting quite a lot from what we believe is a really strong line-up. We have tested countless Silver-rated drivers and Toby (Sowery) really shone, so we’re pleased to have him in the #25 car alongside Freddie (Tomlinson) and Chris (McMurry).

Toby heads out to Malaysia next week for race one of the Asian Le Mans Series. The 4 Hours of Sepang takes place at Sepang International Race Circuit on the 2nd December with race two taking place on the 3rd December. You can watch live via the Asian Le Mans Series website.
